Grade 7/8/9 TECHNOLOGY
There are three technology modules to be completed in junior high:
The Communications Technology Module for Grade 7 requires students to develop communication artifacts, it does so by implementing a design and problem solving methodology.
The Control Technology Module for Grade 8 requires students to explore the fundamental concepts of control systems focusing on basic fluidic and electronic systems. This Module builds upon the design and problem-solving knowledge and skills delivered in the Communications Technology Module. The module presents the robot as an integrated system that uses a variety of control technologies. Students use personal computers and appropriate software to control motors and other electronic devices.
The Energy and Power Technology Module for Grade 9 explores topics such as: the production, conversion and transmission of energy; consequences of energy consumption on society, new technologies for energy conservation; and the measurement of energy transmission. In addition, students will get a practical introduction to principles of physics related to work energy and power. Students will work in design teams to complete hands-on projects using the problem solving process. These projects will have them solve authentic problems in the generation and conservation of energy through alternative means.
Each module is broken into 3 units which will be completed over the course of each year:
- Communications Technology 7
- Control Technology 8
- Energy and Power 9
